This illustrated image painted by artist Robert Hummel was inspired by the 1938 Orson Welles, War of the Worlds radio broadcast on Haloween eve. Artist Hummel imagined that this may be what radio listeners across America imagined as the sat at home when breaking news interupted regularly scheduled programming and described squid like creatures with heat rays from Mars wreaking havoc on the small peaceful farming town of Grovers Mill New Jersey.
